One of the hardest parts of crypto market analysis is separating a genuine trend reversal from a temporary bounce. In a volatile market, prices can move 10–20% very quickly without actually changing the broader structure, which makes early reversal calls especially risky.

For me, the first thing to watch is market structure. A real reversal usually needs more than one strong candle. I want to see the previous sequence of lower highs and lower lows begin to break down, followed by higher lows and a successful reclaim of important resistance levels.

Volume matters as well. If price breaks above a major level but trading volume remains weak, I am less confident that the move has enough participation behind it. A stronger reversal tends to attract increasing spot volume and broader market interest rather than relying only on leveraged positions.

I also look at whether the move is being confirmed across the wider market. If Bitcoin is recovering but Ethereum and major altcoins remain structurally weak, the rally may be more fragile. Broadening participation can be a useful sign that the change is not isolated to one asset.

Derivatives data can add another layer of context. Falling open interest after a large sell-off followed by healthier spot-driven buying can look more constructive than a recovery built almost entirely on rapidly increasing leverage. Funding rates can also help identify when traders are becoming too aggressively positioned in one direction.

The most difficult part is that waiting for confirmation usually means missing the exact bottom. But trying to catch the bottom early can create multiple false entries. I would rather enter slightly later with stronger confirmation than repeatedly trade every bounce as if it is the beginning of a new trend.

What signals do you need before calling a real crypto trend reversal?

Do you focus mainly on market structure, volume, moving averages, open interest, funding rates or broader market breadth?

And how much confirmation are you willing to wait for before entering a new position?
