When people talk about long-term crypto investing, Bitcoin and Ethereum usually dominate the conversation. But the altcoin market is much broader now, and several ecosystems are trying to build real infrastructure, applications and user activity rather than relying only on token speculation.

The difficult part is deciding what “strong fundamentals” actually means for an altcoin. Market capitalization alone does not tell us much. I tend to look more closely at network usage, developer activity, liquidity, decentralization, token economics, security history and whether the project has a realistic reason to exist several years from now.

Solana is an obvious example because it has built one of the largest application ecosystems outside Ethereum. It has strong activity across DeFi, payments, consumer applications and trading infrastructure, but the network also faces questions around decentralization, validator requirements and how much current activity is driven by speculation.

XRP represents a very different thesis. Its supporters focus heavily on payments and institutional use cases, while critics often question whether the token itself captures enough value from the broader ecosystem. That makes it an interesting example of why adoption and token performance are not always the same thing.

There are also projects focused on interoperability, decentralized infrastructure, privacy, data availability and specialized Layer 1 networks. Some may have technically strong products but still struggle to build meaningful user demand.

For me, the most important question is whether a project has a durable competitive advantage. In crypto, narratives can generate enormous short-term attention, but long-term value probably requires something harder to copy: liquidity, developers, users, infrastructure, network effects or a genuinely differentiated technology.

Which altcoins do you currently believe have the strongest fundamentals outside Bitcoin and Ethereum?

What matters most when you evaluate them: network activity, revenue, developer growth, decentralization, tokenomics, institutional adoption or actual users?

And are there any projects you consider fundamentally strong even if their token price has not reflected that yet?
